Ballet West Academy is hosting an audition for ages 8-12 for placement in the 26-27 school year and the 2026 Young Dancer Summer Intensive program.

Summer Intensive Video Auditions

Video submissions will be accepted from January 4-March 31, 2026. If your student is unable to attend an in-person audition for our 2026 Summer Intensives, you may submit an audition video. All audition videos should be no longer than 20 minutes in length and must include:

  • Introduction must include full name, age, birth date, where they are currently studying ballet, and the names of their teachers.

  • Plié, tendu, dégagé, ronde de jambe par terre, fondu, développé, frappé, and grand battement.

    Only one side needs to be included, for dancers applying for the Young Dancer Intensives.

  • Dancers, ages 9-12:

    • Adagio: Adagio combination with an emphasis on port de bras.

    • Turns: Combinations that include turns - turns can be chaine turns, pique turns, or pirouettes.

    • Petit Allegro: Sauté in first, second, and changement in fifth.

    • Grand Allegro: Include sauté in first arabesque, pas de chat and saute de chat. 

    Dancers, ages 13-20: Adagio, pirouette en dehor and en dedan, petit allegro, and grand allegro.

  • Batterie and tour en l'air.

  • En pointe in center: Relevé, échappé, pirouette, and traveling turns.

    Female dancers, age 11 and older, that have begun pointe work may include exercises en pointe at barre or in centre. 

    Pointe work is not required for the Young Dancer Intensive (especially for 9 and 10-year-old dancers). Please do not include pointe work if you have not already begun training en pointe with your current teacher. 

  • A classical variation is optional to include.

Ballet West Academy will be traveling to a city near you, to audition dancers for acceptance and potential merit-based scholarship to our 2026 Summer Intensives.

Ballet West Academy hosts auditions and placement classes year-round, for programming at our four Utah campuses — Salt Lake City, Park City, and Utah County. Read more about how to register for our in person and video options. Open to dancers ages 3-20.

In Person

  • For classes offered in Salt Lake City, Park City, or Utah County

    For our Academy year-round programs: Beginning Division and Elementary A placement is purely by age. Try out a free trial class with us! Registration is available online.

    Elementary B through Elementary C placement is conducted with an in studio placement class. Schedule a placement class online for Salt Lake City, Park City, or Utah County campuses.

  • For classes offered in Salt Lake City, Park City, or Utah County

    For our Academy year-round programs: Acceptance to Student Division Level 1 through Level 8 is considered with an in studio audition or a video audition.

  • Acceptance into our Professional Training Division (PTD) is considered with a/an:

    • In Studio Audition (contact to arrange)

    • Group Audition (to be held April 4 in Salt Lake City)

  • The Trainee program is currently by invitation only. If you would like to be considered, we highly encourage students to attend our Summer Intensive program or submit a Video Audition.

SUBMIT A VIDEO AUDITION

The Ballet West Academy Summer Intensive challenges dancers to improve their ballet technique and study other dance forms that complement classical ballet. Our program offers the unique opportunity for advanced dancers to be considered for Ballet West Academy’s year-round programs at the Salt Lake City, Park City, and Utah County campuses. Auditions are required for acceptance and scholarship consideration.
