The Frederick Quinney Lawson Ballet West Academy Men’s Program has a broad-sweeping reputation for excellence, helping young men in ballet become champions of the art form. Ballet West Academy has a community of young, male dancers, with over 30 percent of students at the Janet Eccles Quinney Ballet Centre in downtown Salt Lake City being male.

The Professional Training Division Men’s Program is divided into two levels, creating a specialized training inherent to the success of the male dancer.

The training schedule is uniquely structured to cater to high school schedules, with classes including men’s technique class, specialized genres (contemporary, flamenco, and other disciplines), and pas de deux.

PTD students participate in Ballet West’s production of The Nutcracker and are eligible to join in other Ballet West productions such as the Family Classic Series and Ballet West’s main subscription series, in addition to participation in the Academy’s Winter and Spring Showcases. Select PTDs participate with Trainees in repertoire including, recently, George Balanchine’s Who Cares, and Divertimento No. 15.

“Traditional male and female techniques begin to diverge in adolescence.  The techniques entirely revolve around the differences in center of balance and power due to differences in muscled composition. Here at Ballet West Academy, we are fortunate to have this specialized training which I believe to be inherent in the success of the individual dancer.”

— Jeff Rogers, Director of Men’s Program
